ジャクソン・ブラウンのソロデビュー以前の、つまりソングライター時代の代表作に"Shadow Dream Song"と言うのがあります。ジャクソン自身は公式にはスタジオ・レコーディングが未発表の（ニーナ・デモと言われる音楽出版社向けのデモテープが有名です）曲ですが、内省的な歌詞、ドリーミーなarr(カヴァーされるヴァージョンはどれもそういうarrです)でファンの間では人気の曲です。

いちばん有名なのはトム・ラッシュのヴァージョンで、僕は山下達郎の｢サウンド・ストリート」でOAされたものがこの曲の初聞きでした。それからスティーヴ・ヌーナン。オレンジ・カウンティのアマチュア時代のジャクソンの古い友人で、パメラ・ポーランドやグレッグ・コープランドと共に地元では知られた人でした。67年にElektraから出た「Steve Noonan」は共作を含め、ジャクソン、ヌーナン、コープランドの3人の曲で占められています。まあフォーキーな人ですが不思議な魅力があります。ヌーナンと言えば、ジャクソンも初期にメンバーだったNGDBの"Buy For Me A Rain"の作者としても知られています。
そしてグレッグ・オールマンが当時の恋人シェールとリリースした「Allman & Woman」('77)にもカヴァーがあります。オールマンはジャクソンとは古くから交流があり、"These Days"もかなり早い時期に取り上げています。
